Ceramic Coating – What Is It and Why Should I Do It?
Ceramic coating, thermal barrier coating, heat transfer coating and dry film lubrication coating are ideal for items that reach up to 2000 degrees and always recommended on high heat items such as exhaust manifolds, headers, and turbo housings.

These coatings prevent corrosion, increase durability and provide thermal insulation. Ceramic coating is an excellent thermal barrier. By doing so, ceramic coating reduces under-hood heat temperatures which will increase horsepower. Being very durable, ceramic coating is available in a variety of colors.
When properly applied it becomes the most effective thermal barrier coating available, increasing performance, while extending component life. Unlike header wraps, it does not hold potentially damaging heat and moisture around the part. Rather, the surface temperatures are actually reduced, extending the life of the part. When cured, a very effective corrosion inhibiting film is formed that protects the part against oxidation and imparts excellent chemical resistance that further extends part life and enhances appearance.

Our Process
-
Parts are washed and degreased until they pass the “white glove test.”
-
Parts that have paint or rust/corrosion are blasted using appropriate media. Large parts outside our capabilities will need to be sent out.
-
If the part is cast, galvanized, or has been exposed to oil for a long time will be out-gassed in the oven to remove any trapped contaminants.
-
The parts are then racked and cleaned.
-
Ceramic Coating is applied and the parts are moved into the oven for curing.
Requirements for Ceramic Coating
-
The piece must be made of metal and be able to withstand 800 F for at least 120 minutes. All gaskets, bearings, clips, etc need to be removed prior to painting
-
There can be no previous finish on the metal. Polished surfaces like chrome and stainless will need to be removed chemically or mechanically. All paint, clear coat, rust, etc. must be removed prior to painting. We can handle media blasting up to 58"w, 24"d, 30"h. Larger items will need to be sent out for blasting if possible.

Protec Custom Coating and Engineering uses a special ceramic coating specifically designed for thermal barrier protection, heat transfer and dry film lubrication.

Thermal Barriers
Thermal Barrier products significantly reduce heat transfer of components that operate at elevated temperatures. These coatings are used extensively in the automotive, commercial truck, heavy equipment and performance racing industries. Thermal barrier products increase performance, reduce maintenance cost and protect against corrosion. Thermal Barrier products can alter heat transfer by up to 15% depending on the specific application.

Heat Dissipation Coatings
When applied to surfaces, Micro Dyne’s heat dissipation coatings transfer heat away from a substrate, resulting in improved efficiencies, performance and longevity of the coated parts. This ceramic bonded, thermal-conductive coating also helps to prevent corrosion and damage related to chemical and solvent attack. The Micro Dyne Artic Black and Transfer Grey coating systems are used extensively in the transportation and electronics industries to reduce residual heat from components..
